Code of Conduct

Appearance
All officials are requested to wear their ID cards and Officials cap. Colour coded bibs will be issued to most Roadside Officials depending on the task involved. To add to visual appeal of the ‘uniform’, all Roadside Officials (wherever possible) are requested to wear blue jeans.
Please ensure that you return all bibs used in your targa stage in as clean and tidy condition as possible.

Behaviour
How you act is just as important as how you look! An international motoring event is not a place for 'skylarking', practical jokes OR THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL! The competitors have a blood alcohol limit of ZERO - so should you.

Diplomacy
As officials, you will be in the front line of contact with competitors, members of the public, landowners and representatives of the many governing bodies involved. Please be as helpful as possible, keeping in mind that your first duty is the safe and efficient conduct of the event.
Be firm - if necessary - but always polite and wherever possible, helpful. Welcome competitors with a smile and a 'hello' but don't ask competitors how they are going or if they are having any problems. Most competitors are trying to get into their zone and concentrating on their job at hand. Your enquiry will usually not be welcome. Be confident, friendly and firm. NO physical assistance should be offered except in an extreme emergency situation.

Cameras and Mobile Phones
Cameras
Spectator marshals and control post officials should not use a camera whilst on duty. Your tasks must not only be done well, but must also "be seen to be done well". If you are using a camera you cannot be seen to be performing your role.

Mobile Phones
Control Officials:- a phone may well distract you at an important moment. Leave it OFF until your duty has been completed.

Road Closure or Spectator Marshals:- It is an advantage for stage security if you make sure that the 'stage safety officer' has your mobile phone number (if you are in an area that has mobile phone coverage), likewise you should make sure that you have either the "stage commander's" or the "stage safety officer's" number. During the running of a stage please use your phone only in the case of an emergency to avoid cell congestion.

Reporting for duty
Each of you will have a designated function which will usually mean meeting somewhere at a given time. If for any reason you may be late for this meeting or unable to perform your task, notify your senior official as soon as you are aware you will be late. Don't wait until you are actually late before calling. All officials carrying out any function on the event must sign on prior to the start of a stage. Officials’ sign-on forms will be available at each control post.

Any official who is under the age of 18 must, when signing on, be able to produce to the stage commander a signed Parental Consent Form. Family and friends. Only nominated officials are permitted into control areas. Family members may accompany you to your location but must view the event from outside the control areas. Children under the age of 14 cannot be registered as officials. No animals are to be brought onto targa stages.
